"First Tech Electrical was amazing to deal with. He was very quick and efficient, with great pricing! He replaced a switch that had burnt out in our laundry, put a new heat pump in and replaced our old school circuit board. These upgrades have made a huge difference to our home. Thanks Kees for your awesome work, and we highly recommend First Tech Electrical. We will be using them again."

Building, extending or renovating is the best chance you'll ever get to put power, lighting and heating exactly where you want it. Once the walls are lined, every change costs more. We work with you and your builder from the frame stage, so the electrical is planned around how you'll actually live in the place.

We're a registered electrician based in Palmerston North, working on new builds, extensions, kitchen and bathroom renovations and full rewires across Palmerston North, Feilding and the wider Manawatū. Heat pumps, switchboards, lighting and power all done by the same team, so nothing falls between the gaps.

Why it's worth doing right

Planned, not patched

We walk the plans with you before pre-wire, so outlets, switches and lighting end up where you'll use them.

One team for the lot

Wiring, lighting, switchboard and heat pumps from one registered electrician, so the trades line up and nothing is missed.

Works with your builder

We fit around your build programme, turn up when we say we will, and leave the site tidy.

How it works

  1. 1

    Plan

We go through the plans with you (and your builder) and agree where everything goes.

  2. 2

    Pre-wire

Cabling goes in at framing stage, before the walls are lined.

  3. 3

    Fit-off

Switches, outlets, lights, switchboard and any heat pumps installed once the walls are done.

  4. 4

    Test and certify

Everything tested, and you get your electrical certification at the end.

Renovations and extensions

Older Manawatū homes often have wiring and switchboards that weren't built for modern kitchens, heat pumps or EV chargers. A renovation is the right time to check the board has the capacity and RCD protection it needs, rather than finding out halfway through.

For kitchens and bathrooms we'll sort the power, lighting, extractor fans and appliance circuits, and make sure it all meets current New Zealand standards.

Heating built in from the start

If you're planning heat pumps or a ducted system, it's far easier and tidier to run the pipework and cabling during the build. We can size and install heating as part of the same job.

Frequently asked questions

When should I get an electrician involved in a build or reno? ▾

As early as you can, ideally before framing is finished. Planning outlets, lighting and heating before the walls are lined saves money and avoids awkward compromises later.

Do you work with builders? ▾

Yes. We regularly work alongside builders and fit around their programme. Happy to deal with your builder directly so you don't have to be the go-between.

Will my old switchboard cope with a renovation? ▾

Sometimes it won't. Many older boards don't have RCD protection or room for new circuits. We'll check it early and let you know if an upgrade is needed before work starts.

Do you provide electrical certification? ▾

Yes. All our work is tested and certified by a registered electrician to current New Zealand standards.
